Spinal & Lumbar Orthotics

Spinal & Lumbar OrthoticsPoor back health is a major issue with some staggering statistics – as much as 80% of us will be affected at some point in our lives. Back pain can occur due to damage to the bones, ligaments or muscles of the spine.

Your back supports your torso and head, and the spine consists of 33 vertebrae all with their own muscles and ligaments which allow you a stand, sit, bend and walk. At Orthoworx Orthotics & Prosthetics we understand back pain and how it can affect your life. Through understanding your injury or condition as well as lifestyle requirement- we will fit you with the appropriate back brace.

Principals Behind Bracing The Spine:

Lumbar & Thoracic Braces (Corsets)

Lumbar & Thoracic Braces (Corsets)

The principles behind most lumbar back braces are to support, align and/ or immobilize the back. This is done in corsets by increasing the intra-abdominal pressure and supporting the spine. This creates vertical vertebrae offloading and increases the vertebrae’s stability. Our practitioners have in depth knowledge of back braces as well as clinical conditions and will ensure that you are paired with the correct back brace for your condition.

Neck Collars

In the case of neck collars the principle of the brace is to immobilize the spine to prevent movement to allow muscles and ligaments to heal.
